Quartz
Made from one of the hardest minerals on earth, quartz countertops are the most durable options for kitchen counters today. They can also be the most breathtaking. Unlike natural materials, such as granite or quartzite that are mined, quartz is made in a factory. The primary ingredient is ground quartz which makes up between 93%-95% of the actual slab, the rest 5%-7% is made up of polyester resin. Quartz comes in many different colors, anywhere from fire red to green apple. Many marble imitating pieces are also very popular. For some designs recycled glass or metallic flecks are used. The resins help the slab against stains and scratches, making the product nonporous and very maintenance friendly. Unlike granite that needs to be sealed between 12-18 months, quartz does not need any sealers or products to hold the durability of the stone. Although quartz comes in natural colors and some colors imitate granite, the product is gives out more of a modern look.

Granite is a natural stone material that comes from beneath the earths surface. Granite is made from compressed molten rock over the span of millions of years. Granite is a combination of interlocking mineral crystals, such as quartz and feldspar. Each piece is different form the next, as different minerals have mixed with the quartz and feldspar. Mica is the mineral that forms black dots and veins. Quartz forms light gray dots and veins. Felspar makes up the white components you see in the material. The color of the granite depends on what part of the world the stone was harvested from. Different parts of the world contain different minerals, which create different colors.
Granite has shades from solid black to light creamy white. Some parts of the world, you can fine blue, red, and green. It also comes in different finishes as in polished or honed/leather finish. The polished or shiny finish is the most popular, leaving a nice traditional and elegant look. The honed finish has a texture to it and is more of a matte finish, which can look rather appealing in different applications.

Quartzite is one of nature's most precious natural stones. Quartzite forms from sand grains, which is why it's mostly found near beaches, desert dunes or riverbeds. As the sandstone tend to be buried deeper and deeper, more head and pressure cause the sandstone to compress. During this the sand grains lose their shape and form into quartzite. In Brazil, minerals are carried through the sand grains by groundwater, which makes some most unique and colorful quartzite such as fusion, emerald green and macaubas. Quartzite is much more durable than Marble or Onyx. It is still recommended to keep the counters sealed like granite. It is best to keep your countertops clean and wipe down spills immediately to avoid any stains or blemishes to the stone.
